$500

This travel funding will make it possible for me to see and document Forklift Dancework's premiere of 'The Way of Water: Onion Creek' in Austin TX. For the last 25 years, I've had the honor of mentoring and learning from Forklift's founder, Allison Orr. As part of our collaboration, I will be interviewing a wide-array of participants and document their experiences in short story form, drawing on my decades of creating arts-based social justice projects with municipal staff, unions and communities. The Way of Water examines the histories, challenges, and futures of water as a shared resource. Engaging civic workers, local artists, and neighborhood residents in a practice of community-based dance making, the project seeks to elevate inter-connectedness and collaboration, beginning with a performance featuring Austin Watershed Protection employees and community residents confronting flooding issues.
