UMS will present the renowned Zimbabwean dancer and choreographer Nora Chipaumire in November 2016 for a multi-day residency in Ann Arbor. During that time, Ms. Chipaumire and Senegalese dancer Kaolack will perform her new work, “portrait of myself as my father,” and participate in related engagement activities. Choreographed by Ms. Chipaumire, “portrait of myself as my father” celebrates and critiques masculinity, manhood, and ideas around the African male – his presence, presentation, and representation. The work is set for two performers who are tethered together in a makeshift boxing ring.
