In "Kannapolis", Jenny Scheinman performs her original live score to rare footage by 1930’s era filmmaker H. Lee Waters, reworked into a new film by Finn Taylor. The film highlights Kannapolis, N. Carolina, home of Cannon Mills. This New England tour focuses on a deep part of our New England heritage: everyday life in a company mill town. Outreach will focus on this connection as well as exploring other issues we see in the film: differences of race, class, how we interact with the camera, then and now. Scheinman creates a live soundtrack to accompany this extraordinary footage which shows a way of life, now lost, yet still part of our architecture, imagery, and collective memory.
