Urbano Project is a community non-profit that fosters public and participatory art as a vehicle for personal transformation, community cohesion, and social change.
Urbano offers youth high-quality contemporary art education experiences that facilitate creative youth development and nurture a corps of positively engaged young leaders who believe in the power of public and participatory art to promote dialogue, civic engagement, and address significant social justice issues.
Central to Urbano's programming are Artists in Residence (AiR) that lead semester-long Youth Artist Projects (YAP). Boston Public School (BPS) high school students between the ages of 14 - 19 partner with Urbano's AiR to explore an annual theme. Participants representing diverse Boston communities study contemporary art through mentorship, art making, workshop discussions, public dialogue, and production of public arts events.
