“VARIEDADES: Little Central America, 1984” features five Central American performance artists telling their own stories as well as of the birth of a community, serving as context for today’s Central American refugee crisis (now exacerbated by Covid-19). Through theater, poetry and music, we present a moment of crisis and trauma – the civil wars of the 1980s that sent over a million refugees to the US – that also bred hope in solidarity and sanctuary. Our initial tour takes us to San Francisco, Houston and Washington DC, to hold space with local artists and activists who offered sanctuary back then – and now.
