The Virginia Arts Festival

The Virginia Arts Festival will present the world premiere of Jawole Zollar’s & Urban Bush Women’s Hair and other Stories, a multidisciplinary work addressing race, gender identity, & economic inequality through the lens of hair, primarily that of African American women. The mainstage performance, April 22, 2017, takes place at the historic Attucks Theatre, a state and national landmark distinguished as the oldest remaining legitimate theatre in the nation entirely financed, designed, constructed and operated by African Americans. UBW will also engage our community via masterclasses & Hair Parties. Outreach is scheduled April 17-19, with a portion targeting a nearby under-served community.
