The Walker will provide a commission, production residency, and presentation support for Trajal Harrell’s The Ghost of Montpellier Meets the Samurai, his new dance-performance work inspired by three figures in the arts: Tatsumi Hijikata, Ellen Stewart, and Dominique Bagouet. Prior to the premiere at the Montpellier Danse Festival in June 2015, the Walker will provide an essential residency in May 2015 to test out innovative lighting, technical and choreographic experiments that Harrell has conceived for the work. Harrell and his company will return in March 2016 for a short residency to re-mount, restore the work for its U.S. debut (March 10-12) at the Walker prior to its U.S. tour.
