Wenxuan Xue

“Temple of Our Ancestral Dreams” is a multi-series public performance ceremony that embodies, remembers, and imagines femme/queer/trans Asian American and BIPOC ancestors through stories, songs, prayers, and collective rituals. In a series of embodied workshops, community memorial, and solo / communal performance, this project activates Boston Chinatown as a temple and a site of refuge by working with Tai Chi practitioners, Buddhist monastics, local residents, and intergenerational and spiritual communities. This project invites us to consider: Where can we grieve? Can we do so publicly? How might we transform the weight of grief into something light, communal, and perhaps even playful?
