On October 16 2020, Nobuntu, a female a cappella quintet from Zimbabwe, will perform traditional Zimbabwean songs as well as work inspired by Afro Jazz and Gospel. The word Nobuntu is an African concept that values humbleness, love, unity and family from a woman’s perspective. Nobuntu will perform as part of the Crowell Concert Series followed by a post-concert talk highlighting the intersections between their art and community activism. The quintet will present a workshop with Wesleyan’s Ebony Singers, a student gospel choir, as well as attend class visits to the African Studies and Feminist, Gender and Sexuality Studies departments. They will also do a concert for Middletown Public School
