In collaboration with the Archives at Jacob’s Pillow and the Williams College Theatre and Dance Department, the Williams College Museum of Art is planning an exhibition that will highlight and help interpret the role that Jacob’s Pillow Founder Ted Shawn and his creative partner Ruth St. Denis played in establishing modern dance in the United States. Through posters, costumes, photographs, props, publicity materials, and film, the exhibition will address Shawn’s and St. Denis’s reliance on cultural appropriation to create modern movements. The collaboration will bring choreographer and dancer Adam H. Weinert and his ensemble to WCMA where a performance of four pieces will be staged.
