Community Street Stories will be a public art extension of the HairStory Project. The relevancy of this project will be to document how hair in Black and brown communities transcends just being an accessory but, in these communities, hair is an expression of culture and identity. This phase of the HairStory project will take us into Egleston, Dorchester, and Cambridge in collaboration with local salons and barbershops. We will engage with customers receiving hair services and pedestrians on the street. Ms. Modestin centers her blackness in her work to bring awareness to the plight of Black women in the Americas.
