The New England Foundation for the Arts’ board of directors and staff met on June 27 and 28 for the first meeting of the fiscal year 2025.

Each year, NEFA holds the annual board retreat in a different New England state throughout the region, often working with our state arts agency partners to identify an arts-focused community to experience. This year’s retreat was held in Bangor, Maine, at the Wabanaki Public Health & Wellness organization, which serves four federally recognized tribes located in five communities - the Houlton Band of Maliseet Indians, the Aroostook Band of Micmacs, the Passamaquoddy Tribe at Indian Township, the Passamaquoddy Tribe at Pleasant Point, and the Penobscot Nation.

In addition to dedicated conversation regarding NEFA’s strategic planning, the board elected a new chair. Former vice chair Carrie Zaslow (Providence, RI) was welcomed as the new chair of NEFA’s board of directors, succeeding prior chair John Henry (Natick, MA). Iván Espinoza-Madrigal (Boston, MA) remains as board secretary and Frank Mitchell (New Haven, CT) remains as treasurer. The vice chair role will be filled at the fall 2024 meeting. View the full board roster

“I am pleased to step into the chair role at this period of metamorphosis as we embrace change while recognizing the successes of the past,” said Zaslow. “I want to thank John Henry for shepherding NEFA through the pandemic and an executive director transition while maintaining consistent leadership at the board level, and express gratitude to the three board members who have rotated off for their service to NEFA and their continued support of the arts.”

The three outgoing members are:

  • Min Jung Kim, five years of service
  • Lynne McCormack, three years of service
  • Pamela Tatge, nine years of service

Additional special guests at the meeting included Todd Trebour, newly appointed executive director of the Rhode Island State Council on the Arts, and Amy Hausmann, new executive director of the Maine Arts Commission.
