The New England Foundation for the Arts (Boston, MA) will showcase dozens of creative economy projects from throughout New England as part of its fourth Creative Communities Exchange (CCX) in Keene, NH, on June 2-3, 2015. This major regional event is being produced with local host Arts Alive.
The Creative Communities Exchange offers workshops led by New England leaders showcasing model projects of cultural economic development at the local level. The gathering promises a dynamic setting for peer-to-peer learning and networking, and builds upon previous events held in Portland, ME (2013), North Adams, MA (2011) and Providence, RI (2009). An extension of NEFA’s longstanding research on the creative economy, the CCX helps build a bridge between the creative sector and community development by providing a forum to explore the creative assets of New England and share —through collaboration, ingenuity, vision, leadership, and patience—ways the creative sector continues to breathe life and opportunity into the region.
“Each CCX reflects the unique characteristics of its host site, while sharing a common theme: the success of the creative economy relies on strong partnerships and participation grounded in local community,” noted NEFA executive director Cathy Edwards. “This year, with Arts Alive leading the local host committee, along with the event sponsors, we are engaging participation from other sectors including city planning, research and economic development.”
This year’s CCX will kick off with a welcome from the president of Keene State College, Dr. Anne Huot, and the mayor of Keene, the Honorable Kendall W. Lane. The event will culminate with remarks from National Endowment for the Arts Chair Jane Chu and close with the presentation of NEFA’s Creative Economy Awards, recognizing two of the region’s most outstanding creative economy projects. This cash award was created to recognize excellence in arts-based community development.
