(Boston, MA) The New England Foundation for the Arts (NEFA) has awarded $470,000 through the National Dance Project (NDP) to support production residencies and touring of contemporary dance companies in 2013-14. NEFA’s National Dance Project fuels the creation of new dance works and brings the work of the most compelling dance artists of our time to audiences across the nation.
Seven U.S.-based contemporary dance companies were awarded grants ranging from $18,000-$22,000 each for late-stage, technical residencies with institutional partners. The highly collaborative residencies provide access to technical facilities and staff as well as artistic, directorial, and/or dramaturgical input to support the production of works. Invitations to apply for these grants are extended to recipients of NDP’s Production Grants, which support the creation of new work. “We know that this additional dimension of support can make an enormous difference to artists in the realization of work prior to touring, and we are delighted to extend NDP’s impact in this way,” said NDP program manager Sara C. Nash.

In addition to the production residency grants, eight dance companies received NDP Touring Awards of up to $40,000 each to support their U.S. tours in 2013-14. Projects were selected from a highly competitive pool of U.S. and international applicants. These Touring Awards complement 24 other projects available for touring support in the 2013-14 season announced in summer 2012. Organizations interested in presenting any of these artists should contact the Tour Coordinators listed prior to March 1, 2013, in order to be considered for an NDP Presentation Grant.

Since then, the program has distributed more than $24.3 million in grants and remains one of the few sources for dance funding in the country.
