Bates Dance Festival

Bates Dance Festival (BDF) will present Amirah Sackett twice in 2019. In April she will perform a solo work about the intersection of Muslim-American culture and hip hop in the Bates College 300-seat Schaeffer Theatre in partnership with The Office of Intercultural Education, and Departments of Music; Religious Studies; and Gender and Sexuality. In July she will teach hip hop for three weeks at the BDF Young Dancers Workshop (YDW). BDF will present two performances of Amirah’s large-scale project Caravanserai in Schaeffer as well as a free outdoor DJ set with dance instruction for the general public. She will teach workshops with the local teen Muslim community during both visits.
