In fall 2018, BAM will welcome choreographer David Roussève back to the BAM Harvey Theater for the first time in nearly 20 years with Halfway to Dawn, a new dance work based on the life and music of largely unknown jazz legend Billy Strayhorn, one of Duke Ellington’s core collaborators. Through modern, postmodern, and jazz movement along with multimedia and text elements, the piece celebrates the complexity of Strayhorn’s music while exploring the interplay between life and legacy. BAM is also currently exploring a choreography master class as part of this engagement.
