On the Boards (OtB) will present Kaneza Schaal and Cornell Alston’s Jack&, an in-depth exploration of the experience of people who have re-entered American society after spending time in prison. Jack& is a performance in three parts that explore this process, beginning with more or less traditional storytelling and progressing into an abstraction of dreaming. It exposes issues with our prison system and those trapped within it over time. It is designed to invite audiences who have experiences within American prisons to attend performances, and finishes with a post-show reception featuring cake. In addition to four performances of this artwork, OtB will also film it for OntheBoards.tv.
