The purpose of this trip is to push aside colonial analyses of Indigenous performance practices that has often misconstrued the real purpose behind these performances, as more than just a performance, but a ceremony and form of healing. As an Indigenous writer and researcher of decolonial practices and cultural education, I would like to utilize this opportunity to deconstruct and review a performance that claims the goal of indigenizing space and reclaiming nationhood by offering a more culturally competent understanding of what performance is, what dance is, and how such practices have long been a part of our Indigenous cultures for time immemorial.
