This will support the integration of film into my new work, Dance of the Future, which explores the historical connection between early modern dance and land in New England. The working title comes from Isadora Duncan’s manifesto. I am particularly interested in the pastoral and how it manifests in the body. Drawing from images, texts by early modern practitioners, and written accounts of dances I will create a performance that uses strategies of reenactment, erasure, doubling, repetition, iteration, and slippage to emphasize the ruptures and connections between then and now. This is part of my ongoing choreographic research into personal and collective memory.
