Samite, a singer and multi-instrumentalist originally from Uganda (playing western and African flutes and kalimbas), will perform with a guitarist, bassist, and percussionist in a 90 minute set at the Springfield Jazz & Roots Festival on August 10, 2019. Samite will also conduct a community outreach program on Friday, August 9th. As Billboard magazine describes, "Samite wraps his warm voice around melodies that seem to rise up off the Ugandan plateau, caressed by his kalimbas and other native instruments". The Springfield Jazz & Roots Festival presents world class performances for free to residents of Springfield and the New England region, drawing several thousand people each August.
