Constant State of Otherness is a multidisciplinary performance weaving theatrical storytelling, taiko and Japanese folk dance to acknowledge feelings of isolation, alienation, and displacement. This narrative theatrical piece is rooted in personal stories expressing specific and universal themes of otherness. How have I been othered? How have I othered myself? How have I othered others? Through a rich ensemble-driven creation and community engagement process, culminating in a full theatrical production, this project provides artistic and social dialogues that will question, challenge, and disrupt the mainstream narrative of identity, especially within the current American landscape.
