Music from the Sole, a unique percussive dance company, will bring their original composition "Partido" to the Redfern Arts Center on October 22, 2020. Founded by Dorrance Dance core members, Brazilian tap dancer Leonardo Sandoval and composer Gregory Richardson, Partido explores connections between various African American and Afro-diasporic urban dance styles, including tap, samba, hip hop, house, jazz, and Brazilian funk. The evening-length piece for 6 dancers and 3 musicians explores the shared heritage of these forms, and explores Sandoval’s experience as an Afro-Brazilian immigrant in the US. Planned activities include 2 percussive dance workshops and a post-show Q&A.
