FIRES OF VARANASI will be a World Premiere at The Soraya, where we have co-commissioned the work with The Kennedy Center. In FIRES OF VARANASI, Ragamala evokes and embodies the millions of pilgrims whose feet rewrite the city’s geography year after year. An original score will layer South Indian Carnatic compositions with Hindu Vedic chants and Buddhist mantras.
Ragamala will be at The Soraya for a week for extended rehearsals leading up to the premiere.
In addition to the public performance, The FIRES OF VARANASI will also be presented to middle and high school students at an Invited Dress Rehearsal, and a Master Class for university students will be offered.
