The Civilians

TALENT SHOW is a timely new musical devised by a company of artists and written/composed by Ethan Lipton (Nowhere to Go, The Outer Space) employing wit and imaginative theatricality to examine the fast-changing landscape of public education. Drawing on interviews conducted by the company in North Carolina, Lipton frames these real voices in a community talent show. Through song and other talents, we meet teachers, parents, politicians, charter school lobbyists and more, revealing how families and communities are impacted by policy decisions, particularly BIPOC residents, and how they take action to move towards a more just and equitable society.
