RECONSTRUCTION (STILL WORKING BUT THE DEVIL MIGHT BE INSIDE) is a theatrical work with a live musical score exploring if and how intimacy can exist between white and Black individuals in an anti-Black America. We broadly define “intimacy” as a shared understanding of ALL that makes up a given interaction between humans, including historical and personal experiences. The play will be presented alongside workshops focused on undoing racism and other facilitated audience engagement. Our goal is to make a work that is useful to racially diverse audiences, and to capture a semblance of how profound the process has been for each of us as we’ve reckoned with the living legacies of white supremacy.
