Pam Tanowitz Dance

Pam Tanowitz requests support for the development and touring of Song of Songs, a new evening-length dance work. Song of Songs will be created in collaboration with composer David Lang, who will set the biblical Song of Songs for chorus and ensemble, and Izhar Patkin, an Israeli-American visual artist who will create the décor. Song of Songs is the third piece in Tanowitz’s masterworks trilogy, following New Work for Goldberg Variations and Four Quartets. Each work investigates dance in dialogue with iconic works of the past; Song of Songs explores a formal and personal relationship to an ancient poetic text and its many layers of meaning.
