Innovative electric komungo virtuoso and Guggenheim Composer Fellow Jin Hi Kim created A Ritual for Covid-19 in memory of the over 500,000 deaths in the USA and 2.64 million deaths worldwide during the pandemic. This transcendent work is inspired by Ssitkimkut, a Korean grieving ritual that offers an uplifting spiritual transformation that is full of moments that sublimely express the sadness, joy, and humor that are all part of the human condition. For a visually and sonically immersive experience, Kim's original live music composition is paired with video projections and a ritual procession of local volunteers who activate movement to symbolically cleanse and release our collective grief.
