Opera House Arts is excited to collaborate with the Bates Dance Festival in presenting Vanessa Anspaugh's Funerals for the Ocean: a part of her larger project, Aggression Confession Processions, for which she will return for a 2-week residency in Stonington in fall 2021. In this collective work, artists and audiences explore how we mourn and grieve the loss of human bodies and the body of the Ocean, and the inextricable link between these. Mining the trauma of “the everyday” we look at the myriad ways these bodies hold and process atrocity. Performing and visual artists and residents of Maine's coastal fishing villages collaborate in communal rituals of grief for so much already lost.
