I hope to deepen my research on the maintenance of diasporic traditions through generational lapses in memory, cataloging the artifacts of syncretic mysticism, and reckoning with the role of spiritual traditions in liberation, alongside their legacies as tools for empire and domination. Starting with my own Japanese-American ancestry, I am interested in studying the transformation of land- and body-based Shinto and Buddhist practices in the United States. I will attend the Green Gulch Zen Center in Marin, CA as a farm and land stewardship guest student in order to deepen my practices of farming and Zen Buddhism.
