Jaamil Olawale Kosoko and team will visit the ICA at VCU for one week, August 21-28, 2022. They will present a workshop on Wednesday August 24, and a performance of "Black Body Amnesia" on Friday August 26, both in the ICA auditorium. The Friday performance will also be livestreamed. "Black Body Amnesia" is performed by Jaamil Kosoko, mayfield brooks and Raymond Pinto/DJ Maij, and accompanied by Everett Saunders (sound) live when possible. Jaamil’s work in performance is rooted in embodied ritual practice, poetics, Black critical studies, and queer theories of the body as a means to conjure and craft perpetual modes of freedom, healing, and care when/where/however possible. "Black Body Amnesia" continues Jaamil’s engagement in public and performative scholarship. It is a communal act of public study in which the whole process is made visible.
