Honolulu Theatre for Youth has invited a select group of presenters to participate in a special convening around their touring work "The Pa'akai We Bring" (formerly titled "I Lala Mauliola"). As the piece develops, the company is looking to reset how they enter communities and especially how they represent indigenous culture both inside and outside Hawaii. I have been invited to join them in Honolulu for a sharing of this work-in-process and also to see a variety of their work in the context of their venue and community. By being in the Hawaiian community, an important goal is to determine if together we can better understand the pathway to presenting the company's work in a broader spectrum of communities and to discern if this particular work is viable to share throughout the contiguous United States, including at my venue of Playhouse Square, where I book, produce and commission family programming.
