FLAMENCO FANDANGUERO: Primos de la Raza Cósmica is a work of flamenco dance theatre by Yjastros: The American Flamenco Repertory Company, featuring guest dancers and musicians of son jarocho, including the celebrated Patricio Hidalgo and Sinuhé Padilla. Reuniting the "primos hermanos" first cousins of flamenco and son jarocho, exploring 21st century Mestizo/a/x identity and shared histories through flamenco, addressing issues of cultural hybridity and tensions stemming from historical events, power dynamics, and colonization, FLAMENCO FANDANGUERO seeks to re-member cultural traditions that share a common ancestor, and create a work of art that is of, by, and for nuestra gente (“our people”).
Land acknowledgement: Yjastros: The American Flamenco Repertory Company and the National Institute of Flamenco are located on the unceded ancestral homelands of the Diné (Navajo), Apache, and Tiwa peoples, including the Pueblos of Sandia, Isleta, and Laguna.
Estimated artist fee: $30,000/performance; $50,000/week. Information about virtual engagements available upon request.
