Straddling the color line––never quite the right hue––a Black man in America struggles with what it means to be Black, and eventually discovers what it means to be a man. LeLand Gantt relates stories at once harrowing, incredible, and often hilarious––brushes with crime, abuse of alcohol and drugs, as well as interactions with racist and non-racist white AND Black people. Incredibly raw, brutally honest, poignant and funny: "I’m just trying to start a conversation," is the first line...and Rhapsody in Black definitely delivers.
