Postponed from 2020 & 2021 because of COVID, we are delighted at the prospect of finally being able to share the site-specific/responsive "Ezell: Ballad of a Land Man" with Ko Festival audiences. "Ezell" is an environmental, cultural & spiritual parable derived from living in the foothills of Appalachia; the story of one man among many seeking to make sense of the time, place & condition in which we live. In the story, Ezell’s choices, traumas & ancestors intersect with themes of domination & resilience as he seeks to take advantage of an anticipated fracking boom, & the opportunity to reconnect with the people & land of his raising. The sharing of this theatrical work is an attempt to make plain & disrupt domination—to reveal the patterns of domination behavior within this character Ezell & his relationship to others & the land, within his livelihoods, his ways of being, his ancestry & his belief system. It's also an invitation to attendees to begin the work of disrupting domination.
