On August 13, 2022, the Afro Rican Jazz band led by jazz trombonist and composer William Cepeda will perform at the Springfield Jazz & Roots Festival, showcasing the integration of jazz with Puerto Rican folkloric and traditional genres such as Bomba, Danza, Plena, Taino, and Jibaro music traditions. The concert will feature highly sophisticated jazz compositions and unique arrangements which highlight the African roots of jazz. The music will be a collage of rigorous improvisations, complex harmonies, polyrhythmic grooves, modern colors, and traditional elements. William Cepeda will also present a workshop for the Performance Project's First Generation youth arts program and other community members.
