Portland Ovations

On April 14, 2023, Ovations is co-presenting Toshi & Bernice Johnson Reagon’s PARABLE OF THE SOWER with Indigo Arts Alliance (IAA) in association with Bowdoin College (BC). PARABLE is a theatrical work of rare power and beauty that reveals deep insights on gender, race and the future of civilization. Genre-defying, it includes a powerhouse ensemble of 20+ singers and musicians, bringing forth 30 potent songs from over 200 years of Black music to give musical life to Octavia E. Butler’s landmark novel. Through Toshi Reagon’s Parable Path and complementary activities, Maine communities will engage with the themes, artistic process and activation that is PARABLE OF THE SOWER.
