"FLUSHING (Making Room for Someone Else)" is a new piece produced by Sandglass Theater of Putney Vermont. The piece begins at the Brink, where 2 theater directors are passing the leadership of their ensembles to the next generation. This moment sparks a reflection on what it means to retire & what it might mean to inherit. For those stepping down, what do we leave & who do we become? And for those stepping up, how do we take what is given & make it our own? Conceived & written by Linda Parris-Bailey & Eric Bass, who have helmed two of the ensembles (Sandglass Theater & Carpetbag Theatre of Knoxville, TN) that have been important players in Ko's presenting & residency history, the piece would bring a cohort of artists with very different artistic histories and aesthetics back to Ko. KoFest’s Artistic Director will join the creative team as lighting designer, even as she, in light of the current zeitgeist, grapples with similar issues in envisioning Ko's future — and her own.
