SCDT will host a residency, public workshops/artist talks and present Vanessa Anspaug's new work: Late Mournings, April 2- April 9, 2023. Along side the performances on April 7-8, will be a weekend of workshops with Vanessa and her collaborators for the western Ma public.
Late Mournings, wants to wake-up. Inspired by early & contemporary death and grieving rituals three archetypal female outcasts (facing their own aging bodies) along with one transmasculine teen ghost, tell an ancient story that is also the present. Narrative and time is constructed and deconstructed in cyclical revere. This seasoned cast of performers explores communal responsibility, “hysteria,” rage and desire as they relate to the devastating, absurd, and sacred ways we come to care for bodies and ritualize endings.
3 workshops will be offered including a teen making workshop, a compositional techniques workshop for professionals and an artist talk for the general public.
