The 1932 Criterion Theatre

The Acadia Dance Festival, first launched in 2018, is a community-centered celebration of contemporary dance based on Mount Desert Island (MDI), Maine. Co-presented by the Maine-based 1932 Criterion Theatre and New Jersey-based Nimbus Dance, the festival strives to build expansive connections between dance makers in the northeast while delivering exciting contemporary dance programming to the Mount Desert Island community. The Acadia Dance Festival’s 2022 season will work to engage the MDI community through performance, a summer intensive for high school and college dancers, and youth programming through local summer camps. We are currently seeking support to host Boston-based Luminarium Dance Company as a part of our 2022 festival. Luminarium’s mission and history of engaging communities through performance, education, and illumination are in alignment with the vision and goals of the Acadia Dance Festival.
