Octavia A. Butler’s Parable of the Sower: The Opera, created by Toshi Reagon and Bernice Johnson Reagon, is a timely and momentous masterpiece that artfully integrates centuries of Black musical tradition with Butler’s prophetic, Afrofuturistic science fiction novel about a young Lauren Olamina’s story in a near-future U.S. The International Festival of Arts and Ideas is proud to present this work in partnership with the Schwarzman Center at Yale, at the Shubert Theatre. Obie Award winning co-director Eric Ting and Toshi Reagon will participate in a meet and greet, masterclass, and workshop that will allow the community to connect with themes of the piece.
