The Osher Lifelong Learning Institute at Berkshire Community College is requesting funding support to bring Maine's Indigenous Eastern Woodlands flutist Hawk Henries (Nipmuc) to the rural Berkshires for performances in September that are part of a larger initiative entitled "We Are Still Here: Indigenous Peoples of the Northeast." Mr. Henries will perform at an Indigenous pop-up dinner prepared by Indigenous chef Jessee Lawyer (Abenaki) on the grounds of TOURISTS, an artist owned motel in North Adams, and the following evening he will perform in downtown Pittsfield. Both performances will include storytelling by Mr. Henries to accompany his music. WE ARE STILL HERE also features art exhibits featuring Indigenous artists; online lectures on Indigenous history and current issues; walking tours featuring local Indigenous history; book groups focused on Indigenous authors, and more. We are guided by our Indigenous advisor Jesse Bruchac & members & staff of the Stockbridge-Munsee tribe.
