MBM Dance Company

MBM Dance Company teaches the next generation of Chicago youth the craft of Chicago Footwork. Developed as a dance and music genre in the 1980s, footwork features fast movements and beats that emerged out of House parties on the south and west sides of Chicago. Footwork is a Black dance developed in Chicago, by Chicagoans, and our work continues this legacy. In the fall of 2022, we convened a group of young dancers hand-selected by our team for further instruction, taking place every Saturday and Sunday. This intensive footwork instruction culminates at the Footwork Youth Festival, presented by the Era Footwork Crew, in Chicago on December 4, 2022. The young dancers we trained will present their routine to an audience of peers and legacy Chicago footwork community.
