inkBoat and Wudang West Cultural Center will collaborate on Clouds from a Crumbling Giant, a community-engaged dance project that combines traditional practices of Daoist Internal arts with inkBoat’s performance-devising traditions, rooted in the Japanese avant-garde performing arts. into a work celebrating the artistry of our elderly communities.
Over a two year development span, the project builds upon the participation of an elder cohort from the San Francisco Community Living Campaign and Elder Ashram in Oakland. Discussion will be layered with Daoist Arts exercises to examine the relationship between health practices and the creative process. Directed by Shinichi Iova-Koga, Clouds will premiere as three performances at ODC Theater in Spring 2025 before being adapted for flexible touring.
In whatever locations the project tours to, inkBoat will include elderly participants of the local community, performing a fully staged hour-long work featuring a modular and flexible cast of (5-11) dancers and (3-5) musicians from inkBoat and the community participants.
