The DeBartolo Performing Arts Center will be presenting two public performance of the Dance Theatre of Harlem on Saturday, February 17, 2024 at 2:30 PM and 7:30 PM. Included in the performances is the work "Sounds of Hazel," - inspired by the life and work of Hazel Scott—the prodigiously gifted Trinidadian-American jazz and classical pianist, bandleader, recording artist, and star of stage and screen. Scott, also known for her fervent civil rights activism, suffered persecution at the height of her fame amid the hysteria of McCarthyism. The company will lead at least two masterclasses on Friday, February 16. One masterclass will be at our local arts magnet public high school and the other class will be offered to local dance studios. If time and schedules allow, an additional masterclass may be added.
