Strand Theatre

The Strand Theatre will present The Encounter: Rockland, a physical theatre performance work by Kimberly Bartosik, for two performances as part of our New Century Series in summer 2023. The engagement will feature a local ensemble of intergenerational community members, merging professional and non-professional performers. Bartosik will lead the ensemble to create original material – fostering an artistic encounter that explores a cross-generational conversation about the ferocious power of the body and the potency of dance as a connective language.

The Strand has already put out a call for interest from local participants, who will then audition with Bartosik to create an ensemble of 10. From July 23 to August 3, the Strand will provide rehearsal space for the ensembles’ creation period, as well as facilitating a public Community Practice Workshop – a drop-in movement class for all ages and abilities. The project culminates in two performances on August 4-5, 2023.
