The Carol Kaye Project is Boston Dance Theater’s (BDT) new touring work that celebrates seminal bassist Carol Kaye’s life and breadth of work, consisting of dance works by a variety of American women choreographers. Kaye played on an estimated 10,000 recording sessions, with everyone from the Beach Boys to Marvin Gaye, yet remains relatively unknown. After 2022 presentations with Global Arts Live at Jacob's Pillow, and the ICA Boston, SPACE is excited to bring this work outside of BDT's home state for the first time. SPACE previously screened The Wrecking Crew!, one of the few documentary films that highlights the legacy of Carol Kaye, and we look forward to deepening our local audience's understanding of her work in collaboration with BDT. A community dance class led by BDT core members will be offered along with two performances of the evening length project with four short works, along with an opening performance by a local female bass player.
