Echoes of the Falling River, a collaboration between FRACC, the Pocasset Wampanoag Tribe of Massachusetts and Rhode Island, Bristol Community College, and Viva Fall River will uncover Quequechan River's hidden history along 3.5 miles, using installation sites, artful markers, writings, and community events - visually tracing the river's path. The Pocasset Tribe inhabited the area now known as Fall River. Weetamoo, Sachem of the Pocasset, oversaw a large encampment along the Quequechan River, where Wetu's dotted the landscape and daily life included men building boats and houses, women tending gardens, and children playing along the riverbanks. Industrialization has altered and marginalized the river, worsened by Interstate-195 construction. The project strategically selects key installation sites to foster community engagement, encouraging dialogue and creating a shared space for reflection.
