The Oakland Museum of California (OMCA) welcomes Ritual on the Road -Land to Land by Oakland-based artist Dohee Lee Puri Arts (DLPA) . OMCA will host a three-hour Community Workshop on Saturday, May 18, 2024 followed by a ritual performance on Sunday, May 19, 2024. DLPA creates powerful installations through community workshops and performance art. Presentations are grounded in the healing rituals of Korean indigenous practices from Jeju Island, Korea, where Lee was born and trained. Using visual art and soundscapes, including traditional instrumental and vocal music, these two interconnected presentations will be participatory and inclusive. Ritual on the Road will be rooted in deep engagement with Asian Diaspora immigrant refugee and asylee communities. The project helps participants begin to heal from the harms of displacement and loss of homelands. The OMCA presentation will be developed in collaboration with Asian Refugees United and indigenous Ohlone tribal activists.
