Kalapriya Foundation, Center for Indian Performing Arts

This project will support Kalapriya in bringing Indian dancer/choreographer, Mythili Prakash & an all-female cast of dancers & musicians to Chicago for two public performances of “She’s Auspicious” on September 26 & 27, 2024 at The Dance Center-Columbia College. An original Bharatanatyam dance production, “She’s Auspicious” has been performed to critical acclaim at U.S. & international dance festivals. Blurring the lines between Goddess & Woman to explore the paradox of femininity, the artist’s starting point for this piece has been a study of her own identity – as a woman, mother, performer, person of color & practitioner of a dance form with a complicated history of erasure.

As part of this project, M.Prakash will lead 2 dance workshops (9/23 & 9/24) for Columbia College dance students & 1 workshop at no cost (9/25) for 50 underserved middle & high school students from two south side Chicago Public Schools. CPS workshop attendees will attend the 9/26 performance without cost.
