Papel Machete artist and puppeteer, Jorge Díaz Ortiz will travel to Bulbancha (New Orleans) from Boston, MA to visit 2-3 potential theaters/performance venues and meet with community partners interested in presenting On the Eve of Abolition in New Orleans in 2025. Since the origins of this project, we have imagined touring On the Eve of Abolition to the U.S. South, specifically New Orleans, LA and/or Atlanta, GA. We imagine that presenting the play in Bulbancha will be transformative through the experiences and relationships we forge on the land and among the people of this place. It’s for this reason that we want to invest time and resources into strengthening a foundation for the play ahead of time, with integrity and with the care necessary to build long-term community.
